Recently we worked with AVRL in Australia on a prototype “Virtual Plant Cell Experience” for the ARC Centre of Excellence in Plant Energy Biology. This takes the shape of a VR app, primarily for mobile devices, to be viewed with Google Cardboard headsets, Gear VR and Oculus Rift.
A 360 video preview, which can be viewed using Google Cardboard, can be viewed below:
The short experience is fully interactive, and lets students move around the cell to learn about how plants produce energy from protein genes.
They can go inside a plant cell, explore the insides (the nucleus, mitochondria, the Golgi apparatus…) and interact by, for example, selecting genes from a strand of DNA.
